Here is an ashy patch of land burnt out in the west of Alice Springs. The burnt shrubs and cluster of roots left behind are buffel roots that have survived. Unlike some tree and shrub species in the area that can disintegrate into dust, beyond heat seed activation the Eucalypts rely on, the Buffel’s roots remain and are more so than any specie I’ve seen.

Buffel is embedded into the work to stress it’s physical impact on the land.
