The weather was warming up when studying this Pandanus and there was nothing better than sketching for an hour in the morning and then going for a swim at the beach. Forever my favourite place.

I met Martin and Mahana whilst sketching this work at Nightcliff beach. Martin was an art teacher wearing super speedos who had a lot of style and Mahana was an energetic homeless Maori man who used to carve. I love how forward people are when they see an artist at work, and how they shape that experience in to a memory even more so.
